Examples are two models developed at AORI, the University of Tokyo, in cooperation with other institutes; the atmospheric model NICAM (Nonhydrostatic Icosahedral Atmopheric Model) uses the icosahedral-geodesic grid, while the ocean model COCO (CCSR Ocean Component Model) uses the tri-polar grid. Toward the near future high-resolution earth system modeling, coupling of models with such a different structure is required. Our project aims to advance a coupling tool to be efficient and powerful for the post-exabyte era of super-computers.
